The imputation of Blame

Taking cue from the comments (or was it just a single comment….yes it is!!) that have been made on my earlier post; I would like to address the two major points raised in that comment. One point that has been mentioned is to stop blame game that is being played by the politicians and the other point is about unity and support (Just like what the US opposition parties did after 9/11).

First of all, drawing parallels between the 9/11 event and Mumbai massacre is fundamentally flawed. 9/11 is a single event. Mumbai massacre is a continuation of a series of terror attacks. There has been innumerable amount of terror attacks and bomb blasts which has killed lots of innocent people in the past two years. However, since 9/11 there has been no such incident in US. The security measures were tightened, lots of arrests were made, movement of funds to the terrorist organizations was curbed – In short US did everything that is necessary to prevent any such attack in future. However, there are no such efforts made by the current incumbent government. If we had blamed the current government for inaction after the 2006 blasts, I would say the argument would have some logic. But that is not the case.

Since the government has not taken any steps to curb terrorism (US government had done after the 9/11), I would not blame the opposition parties for finger pointing. I do understand, in a situation like this, every one in the country should support the government in its anti terror measures. However since the government is not taking enough steps, to address this issue (other than giving statement to the media, which doesn’t help anyway), it is better to finger point and remind the government, that it is supposed to take some measures to stop this menace. After all, opposition has the fundamental right and the duty to do so, in a thriving democracy like ours.

I am sure every Indian (irrespective of the party to which he is ideologically inclined to) would support the government, if it had taken some efforts to curb terrorism. Even the current outburst is just an effort to inject some sense into the otherwise torpid home ministry. Will the government wake up? Let us hope so.

Its not easy for india to take an US-like action after this attack. US is a super power - it can attack almost any country on earth single handedly and over power it. And attacking Taliban was simpler since they didnt have direct backing of any government. However, LeT and others have been known to have the support of our neighbour. We all know terrorist training camps are taking place in PoK. Next? we can announce all residents of PoK to pack their bags and leave bcos Indian army is going to go all out and bomb that place (like what US did in Afghanistan). Many innocent lives would be lost and India would face the brunt of global anger. Also, our nuclear powered neighbour would not keep quiet when all this is happening. So, its a much more difficult situation in India compared to USA when 9/11 took place. Internally, it is almost impossible to have the kind of security US is currently having. Security forces need to be trained at a different level. India doesnt have money for all that.

US And India cannot be compared.. It is quite obvious from the fact that US can attack the taliban n afghanistan on the grounds tht it was used to plan out a terror attack, however when India even thinks of mobilizing the troops towards the border our neighbour goes running to uncle sam sayin that it cant continue its bogus war on terror coz it has to defend itself from India. Imagine Condi is coming to india to curtail our reaction.. US could afford to not care bout the International Opinion.. India however can't..
The only thing we can do is stop playin cricket .. no more talks.. trains planes.. watever to pak..

All dis despite the huge indian diaspora we have which all it seems can do is watch bolloywood muvs, so much for their patriotism.

However wat we do need to do is strengthen our legal system so that it doesnt take 10 yrs to punish the terrorists.. (provided their *friends* havent hijacked planes yet)

It is not just the politicians to blame.. the mumbai attacks as it unfolds now seems more to be a case of warnings not heeded than an intelligence failure.. If the coast guards, indian navy cannot perform their duties effectively n that too at a port which is notorious for smuggling and other illegal activities.. what more can you expect.. thanks to NSG the bigger plan to kill 5000 ppl and blow up taj was averted.

Evry1 simply wants to milk the current situation.. the media telecasts the operational secrets to get higher trp's.. as if all terrorists watch is the cartoon network.
The opposotion leader could not for once forget his differences and fly in 2 mumbai with the PM.
The CM takes his son and a director for a taj tour (next muv plot ?).
The deputy CM does a DDLJ dialogue.. "bade bade deshon mei aise choti choti bateein hoti rehti hain"..
All Page3 ppl are the intellectuals now commentin on y NSG is just staioned in dilli....
Hemant karkare who was shunned by ppl for malegaon probe is now being hailed as the new hero.!( talk of hypocrites)

No wonder then major unnikrishnan's father shooed the CM away..!
